About

Learn how to see plants.

Florophilia is an app for people who will pull over to look at a plant. It is built for gardeners, designers, botany students, and anyone who wants to know the name of the thing growing by the fence.

It is independent, with no ads and no tracking. Pick a region, learn its plants, and become a little less ignorant of the nature around you.

Each of 13 floristic regions has its own field guide: which families dominate, which plants are native, which are invasive, and which are just passing through. Every plant has photographs, bloom color, water needs, a hardiness zone, and a range map, fact checked against leading botanical institutions. Lessons on the plant families come with spaced review, and there is a crossword each day.

Florophilia encourages careful observation and study through the act of botanical illustration. We recommend a cheap stylus if you are using a phone, or a digital pencil if you are using a tablet, for the best experience with the app.

Save plants into palettes for your region and season, see what is in bloom this month, and share a palette or export it as a schedule for your nursery.

Reading is free. A yearly membership lets you save, share, and use every tool, including the exports for design studios: CAD blocks, planting schedules, and water use calculations.

Every source is credited in the app.

Florophilia is made by Mars Vision in California.
